The Ho Municipal Assembly has started tearing down buildings built along to local waterways.
The assembly called in bulldozers on Monday to tear down homes constructed in flood-prone locations.
After significant drainage systems overflowed due to severe rains, flooding in multiple stores and residential areas occurred, prompting the decision to remove the buildings.
Some impacted residents were forced to seek shelter in other people’s houses.
The regional director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ivy Amewuga told the media that her team is now determining the extent of the flooding’s damage.
She stated that in order to identify how many people are impacted, they are gathering an evaluation report and taking the required steps.
“As for the causes, we discovered that some individuals had built structures on waterways. Since it is the Assembly’s responsibility to see to it that these structures are taken down, action will now be taken. We will monitor it constantly to make sure that these things are taken down,” Madam Ivy said.
