A total of 1,086 persons have perished in road accidents from January through June 2023.
In 2022, 1,300 persons died over the same time period.
This was disclosed in a Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) report on the provisional figures for road traffic crashes and casualties from January to June.
In addition, 7,807 persons suffered injuries during the study period, compared to a total of 8,007 people injured from January to June of 2022.
Pedestrians were knocked down 1,205 times, compared to 1,356 in 2022, and automobiles were involved in 11,763 collisions, compared to 13,248 in 2022.
From January through June, there were 6,904 recorded cases, compared to 7,687 in 2022.
