Healthcare workers in the Greater Accra Region are pressing the government to launch a health insurance system.
They are also demanding incentive packages for employees who work in rural places in order to increase their commitment to healthcare services.
During the presentation of prizes to more than 5,000 frontline and allied health professionals in the region, Reverend Dr. Ebenezer Asiamah, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Directors of Health, emphasised these issues.
The Greater Accra Regional Directors of Health Chairman, Reverend Dr. Ebenezer Asiamah, emphasised these ideas while presenting awards to more than 5,000 frontline and allied health professionals in the region.
“I would ask that the President continue to take into account health care professionals and the positive things we are accomplishing… We don’t even have a health care workers insurance plan. Since we make daily sacrifices and have the tagline “Your health is our concern,” who is worried about our health? It is a question and I believe the president will hear us. I will sacrifice a young nurse or doctor or any profession to serve for a lot of years if I am now moving to a deprived place and I know I won’t pay water and light bills, there is lodging, free transportation,” the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Directors of Health appealed.
Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, pledged to work with the sector minister to address these issues.
“I am aware that the President has discussed using these incentives to inspire people in the health industry and other fields. Therefore, we will inform the President of this through the minister of health. The president will be aware of it since he has intentions of that type. We must pray for this and rebuild our economy, Mr. Quartey assured.
