A week after an awful fire devastated the French Line part of the Kumasi Central Market, another blaze damaged over 70 stores at the Race Course market.
The fire, which began at 7 a.m. on Monday, largely destroyed metal container stores selling local spices, cowhide, and used goods.
Four fire engines were summoned by the Ghana Fire Service to fight the flames and avoid additional damage. While no injuries were recorded, the fire has devastated many vendors who have lost their livelihoods.
ACFO Henry Giwah, Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana Fire Service, addressed concerns regarding market safety procedures, saying that some sellers utilise stoves and gas cylinders for on-site cooking.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by authorities.
