Aremu Timothy Adegboyega, a 56-year-old Nigerian, was detained for allegedly transporting millions of suspected counterfeit CFA and naira coins.
The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, as he attempted to enter Ghana from Togo via an unauthorized route called Beat Zero in Aflao.
A joint security team detained him.
The staff discovered CFA 80,000,000 in brand-new notes, additional CFA 843,000.00 in his waist bag, and N110,500.00 in his wallet, according to Ahmed Majeed Amandi, assistant commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Aflao Division.
The currencies’ shared serial numbers raised a lot of red flags.
Adegboyega allegedly acknowledged bringing the “fake” money, and this was his second entry into the nation with forgery.
He admitted to the police that his friend in Lagos, Nigeria had given him money for this trip to deliver to Mallam Isumaru Jeru, a client in Abobo, Ivory Coast.
According to Majeed Amandi, the Bank of Ghana will examine the money to determine whether it is real or fake.
The suspect will be transported to Accra for additional questioning.
