President Nana Akufo-Addo has said unequivocally that a major proportion of Agenda 111 hospital projects will be completed in 2024, his final year in office.
President Akufo-Addo stated at the Median Physicians and Surgeons Awards that his ambition is to make Ghana the hub of outstanding medical care in West Africa by 2030.
“To date, 86 district hospitals, two regional psychiatric hospitals, and the western regional hospital are all under construction and at various stages of completion. The 89 projects were completed at a rate of 52 percent on average. Work on several of the sites is now 70 to 80 percent complete.
“Beyond the building of these new healthcare facilities, my vision is to help make Ghana the center of excellence of medical care in West Africa by 2030, Leveraging on Ghana’s favourable status as the most peaceful country in the West Africa sub-region, a beacon of democracy and a land of opportunities.”
The Agenda 111 project, also known as the Ghana Health Facilities Project, was launched by President Akufo-Addo’s government to remedy deficiencies in healthcare facilities across the country.
It calls for the building of 101 district hospitals, two mental hospitals, seven regional hospitals, and the refurbishment of the Accra Mental Hospital.
