All Senior High School (SHS) students across the nation will receive free electronic tablets, according to plans announced by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia noted that this action is part of the government’s digitization agenda.
In addition, the tablet will give students access to alternative textbooks.
The Vice President was speaking at the University of Ghana, Legon, New Year School this year.
“This year, we plan to give tablets to every senior high school student in Ghana, loaded with textbooks for their studies. That development completely changes the game. On the tablets that will be distributed, past exams will already be loaded,” he said.
The government previously declared its partnership with local publishers to launch the initiative.
To enhance teaching and learning, there are plans to provide Senior High Schools and Tertiary institutions with free internet access.
As part of the project, the government claims to have already awarded the contract for the first batch of Wi-Fi installations to start in some second cycle and tertiary institutions.
