The High Court in Accra has ordered Minority Leader Dr. Ato Forson and two other accused people in the financial loss case concerning the acquisition of 50 ambulances during his tenure as deputy minister of finance to open their defence.
This follows the court’s conclusion that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against the accused persons worthy of an answer.
The state has called five witnesses to make its case in the trial, which has been running since 2022, including Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu, personnel from the Finance Ministry, Health Ministry, Ambulance Service, and the Economic and Organized Crime Office.
Mr. Forson and two others are on trial for allegedly causing financial loss in the procurement of ambulances while he was Deputy Finance Minister.
After dismissing the prosecution’s final witness, the court delayed the case until March 30 to determine whether the state has established a prima facie case for the accused to respond.
