The Member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency in the Western Region, Hon. Andrews Egyapa Mercer over the weekend cut sod for the construction of a community center at Aboachikrom, a surburb within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
Hon. Mercer revealed that the people of Aboachikrom do not have any place to have communal meetings and other social gatherings, and had to trek to the Sekondi Youth Center anytime they wanted to have such community gatherings or meetings, a situation he believed was quite inconveniencing to the people.
He said the project was being funded by the government’s flagship programme ” One Constituency-One Million dollars”, and revealed that the Sekondi Constituency has benefitted enormously from several infrastructural development projects since the inception of “One Constituency-One Million dollars” policy.
However, Hon.Mercer was also quick to dispel the allegations that the programme has not been implemented by the government since it assumed the reins of power.
” The project is being funded by the “One Constituency-One Million dollars”, which was promised to the good people of Ghana by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Sekondi has not been left out as we have benefited from several projects including toilets, schools, water systems etc; and it is not correct for some people to say that the government is not implementing that policy. The construction of this community center is clearly a testament that the policy is being implemented”, he disclosed during the sod cutting ceremony.
