On October 13, 2022, the Ashanti Regional Police Command captured two armed robbers and shot one dead at Asuofua Asamang in the Ashanti Region as part of a specialized intelligence operation.
During the operation, the deceased, later identified as Issaka Muniru, was shot when he attempted to fire at the police. He was brought to the hospital for treatment, but he died upon arrival.
The police also apprehended two of his associates, Kwaku Boateng alias Form Noede and Kojo Gyamfi.
The two are currently in police custody and will be brought before a court of law.
Police recovered a Smith & Wesson SD40 VE pistol used to shoot at the cops, as well as thirteen (13) rounds of live ammo.
For years, the deceased, Issaka Muniru, and his robbery syndicate have been involved in a series of robberies in Kumasi and its vicinity.
Before his death, Issaka Muniru was on trial at the Nkawie Circuit Court with three other accomplices, Ernest Agyei Badu, Rider, and MBY, for robbing one Pastor Emmanuel Barfour Awuah of Abuakwa Abakomadi at gunpoint on May 26, 2021, and stealing two (2) gold wrist watches, mobile phones, and an unspecified amount of money.
The court granted bail to the deceased, but he jumped bail, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. His co-conspirators are still on trial in court.
In another robbery in which Issaka Muniru, now deceased, was described as the gang leader, the police caught three other members of his gang, Charles Kojo Fosu, Yaw Anim, and Paul Osafo, but he escaped. The three accused were later remanded into custody
The police have informed the people that they will continue to carry out their constitutional mission of preserving life and property and maintaining law and order, even if it means risking their own lives.
It praised the operation’s staff for their efforts.
