The residents of Assakae, a suburb within the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality, have lamented over the poor management of a waste management site in the community. They have complained that the bad management of the site poses a greater risk to their health, and the stench emanating from the site is becoming increasingly unbearable.
The residents claim that the situation has existed for past one year, and all efforts to get the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality to deal with the situation has since proven futile.
In an effort to get answers from the Assembly, Skyy Power FM in their mid-morning news bulletin interviewed Mr. Agyarko, the Environmental Health Officer for the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA).
Mr. Agyarko revealed that the assembly was aware of the situation within the Assakae community, and plans are far advanced to address the situation, just that the problem has had to do with a land ownership issue.
“The operators of the waste site are said to be collecting tows from residents, so we have invited them over for a meeting as to how we can collectively resolve the problem. And that would also help us speedily resolve the land ownership issue there to pave way for the site to be fixed”.
He, however, reiterated the assembly’s resolve to rectify the problem in the shortest possible time to bring the needed relief to residents of the community.
