One of the candidates vying for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairmanship position in the upcoming national delegates elections, Joseph Ayikoi Otoo has withdrawn from the contest.
Mr. Otto who was a former Attorney General under the Kufuor administration had been approved by the NPP’s vetting committee to run for chairman.
In a press conference in Accra on July 6, 2022, the Chairman of the Elections Committee, Peter Mac Manu, stated that the decision will not affect the elections.
“For me, he has brought a letter duly signed that he is withdrawing from the race and that nevertheless, his support for the party remains unshakeable,” Mr. Manu said.
The main contenders for the position of national chairman are Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and Akwasi Osei Adjei.
The candidates will compete in polls on July 16 as the NPP selects its national leaders ahead of the 2024 elections.
