A recent national poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has disclosed that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen are tied in the race to lead the party ahead of the 2024 elections.
The polls conducted between December 31, 2022 and January 15, 2023, showed the race to lead the NPP is a dead heat among NPP voters, with Dr Bawumia losing the slender lead he had over Mr Kyeremanten in October 2022.
According to the latest poll, Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Kyerematen are tied with 40% of NPP voters.
However, Mr Kyerematen’s lead over Dr Bawumia has shrunk from 41% to 32% among general voters, down from 44% to 31% in October 2022.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central of the New Patriotic Party, is in third place with 14% of the vote.
The NPP has yet to set a date for its presidential primaries to select a candidate for the 2024 eelections
Mr Kyerematen, who resigned, is expected to compete for the position with former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Railways Minister Joe Ghartey, who has also declared his intention to run.
The president’s job approval rating rose significantly from 26% in October to 32% in January 2023, while his disapproval fell sharply from 69% in October to 59% in January 2023, according to the poll.
