The deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wireko-Brobbey, has said the government will soon start negotiations with labour unions over the modalities for paying their Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
“As is done in all negotiations; the first is to agree on the quantum, the percentage of the payment at the next meeting will then be the mode of payment.”
In an interview with Accra- based Asaase radio Mr. Wireko- Brobbey said other workers who are not part of the Single Spine Pay Salary Structure may benefit from COLA.
“Yesterday, we made it clear to the union leaders that we will engage the leadership exclusively on the mode of payment, and that is agreed. There are even consequential matters that arise out of this.
“Very soon we will even convene a tripartite meeting and see how other workers who are not part of the Single Spine Pay Salary Structure will even be considered in this,” he said.
Mr. Wireko-Brobbey further said the COLA is not a recurrent payment but is usually paid as a result of certain factors that have arisen over time.
The government and organised labour on Thursday, July 14, agreed on a 15% COLA to be paid to all public sector workers effective 1st July 2022.
This comes after three days of meetings between the government and labour unions since the demand for a COLA began.
