The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Francis Asenso- Boakye has demanded an amount of GHS10 million from the host of Onua TV’s morning show, Blessed Godsbrain Smart alias Captain Smart and Media General for defamation.
In a writ dated Tuesday September 6, the Minister who also doubles as the Member for Parliament (MP) for Bantama constituency requested for a retraction and an unqualified apology from the defendants, however, they refused to comply.
“The plaintiff further avers that notwithstanding the letter of 29th August 2022, which Defendants on the same day, the 1st Defendant continued in his unlawful act around 30 August 2022, when he repeated the aforementioned false and malicious statement, on the second Defendant’s aforementioned platforms of Onua FM and Television, insisting that the statement complained of is true and factual and thus, refused to retract same and apologise to the Plaintiff,” the writ said.
Again, the Bantama MP also wants “an order of the Honourable court for a perpetual injunction restraining the 2nd Defendant, its agents, assigns, servants and any person claiming authority through it from utilizing it’s platforms for the propagation of false and malicious statements about the Plaintiff.”
Hon. Asenso Boakye earlier claimed that Captain Smart alleged that while Deputy Chief of Staff at the office of the President influenced the outcome of disciplinary proceedings by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) against a certain gentleman named Adubofour, where the MP had the said Adubofour ‘reinstated’ contrary to the decision of GRA to transfer the gentleman.
However, in a statement dated, August 29, 2022, he debunked these allegations.
He therefore, demanded an unqualified apology for peddling the aforementioned blatant and malicious falsehood about him, “within seven days of receipt of this notice since the same social media you published this falsehood.”
