The Electricity Company of Ghana Revenue Mobilization Taskforce team was held captive for almost 30 minutes after they disconnected the Ghana Post Corporation over a GHS 89,000 debt.
On Tuesday, the task force was at the premises to perform its ongoing tax mobilisation exercise when personnel barred it from leaving the Accra main office.
The disconnection effort is in its second week of a month-long national exercise to recover GH5.7 billion from their books.
Kemmat Hotel in Ada, also in the Greater Accra region, was also disconnected for owing over GH228,000 on six accounts (meters).
According to Laila Abubakari, ECG’s manager of external communications, the hotel is infamous for illicit reconnection whenever they are disconnected.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization paid about GHS150,000 to settle its debt and keep the team from disconnecting the ministry.
