The Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Finance and Infrastructure, Joseph Cudjoe is set to commission one of the biggest solar power installations in the Western Region for the Takoradi Technical University (TTU). This follows the installation of a $100,000 worth Solar Power System for the main campus of the University.
According to the Deputy Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Effia Constituency where the main campus of the TTU sits, the need to use an alternative source of power to augment that of hydro and thermal power sources has become necessary in recent times, and that is why he has pursued this project for the past two years just to ensure that the University gets an alternative source of power aside the one provided by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
Hon Joseph Cudjoe revealed that the 25-kilowatt solar power system is expected to power the library and other facilities in the school, ultimately reducing the Electricity bills paid by the school.
“This will help reduce the amount of money spent by the University on the payment of electricity because solar does not rely on the grid, it relies on the sun to generate the power needed,” he said
