The Gambia’s Vice-President, Badara Alieu Joof, has died in India, President Adama Barrow announced.
Barrow did not say whether the vice president was receiving treatment in India when he died.
Joof has not been seen in public for months, according to the BBC’s Omar Wally in Banjul.
Barrow chose him as vice president after being re-elected to a second term in December 2021.
In June, Joof expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of public affairs, stating that Gambians had high expectations and that “business as usual” would not result in significant change, according to our reporter.
