Ghana fined $10,000 over Pitch Invasion
The Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the country an amount of $10,000 for a pitch invasion last year November in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against South Africa.
A former Student of the Nalerigu Nursing Training College, Awal Suleman, 25 invaded the Cape Coast pitch during the game which saw the Black Stars beat Bafana Bafana of South Africa two goals to nil.
Awal’s reason for interrupting the match was to take a selfie with Thomas Party, an Atletico Madrid star. He later met Partey but this happened after he spent two days in police custody; which saw him being fined a sum of GHC2, 400 by the Cape Coast Circuit court.
Harrison Addo, the Ghana FA General Secretary is quoted as saying: “There is a need for lovers of our national teams to behave appropriately within the laws of game.
”This is really important because our actions have consequences for the GFA and the State at large”.
”We will continue to educate the patrons of the game but there will be mechanisms to ensure that fans who cause the Nation to lose money in this manner are brought to book.”
Black Stars were due to return to action this month in a double-header qualifier against Sudan but the games have been postponed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
