The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has announced a possible upward adjustment in fares as a result to the continuous rise in fuel prices.
Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Mr. Abass Moro announced on Thursday, June 16, 2022, that due to the continuous rise in fuel prices, the cost of petrol and diesel at various pumps have shot up again with a litre of diesel being sold above GHC10.
Speaking in an interview with Accra based radio, Asaase Radio, Mr. Moro said the announcement of fare increment will be put on hold should prices of fuel stabilise in the coming days.
“The way it’s coming day in day out, it is our wish that the fuel prices will reduce drastically but if the fuel prices keep going up we will never hesitate to come up with an upward adjustment,” Abass said.
According to him, the leadership of the union uses a 10% threshold increment of fares when fuel prices go up.
“We have also made it known to the general public that we have a 10% threshold. We don’t just increase lorry fares when fuel prices increase.
“We wait till it climbs up to 10% before we get our resources together to look at what percentage we should bring,” he added.
