The recently implemented bet tax, according to the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Domestic Tax Revenue Division, has already brought GH15 million in only one month.
The tax collector believes that before the football season is through, this sum will surpass GH $60 million.
The DTRD Commissioner in charge, Edward Gyambra, expressed optimism that the Authority will exceed its income goals by the end of the year.
“We have two streams of taxes: the gross revenue tax and the withholding tax,” he said.
“For the GGR, we spent an average of GH20 million in the first month of deployment. Regarding the withholding tax, even though the betting season has just begun, we typically generate Gh15 million during the slow period. By May, we expect this to have quadrupled.”
The GRA has implemented a 10% withholding tax on gambling with the intention of earning about GH400 million to increase tax income.
