Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Member of Parliament for the North Tongu seat, has refused to apologise to Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), for accusing him of fleeing the country while a contract he oversaw was being investigated.
In a social media post, Ablakwa accused Ghana’s President, Akufo-Addo, of helping the GRA leader in fleeing the country despite the pending audit of the GRA and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) revenue assurance contract.
Ablakwa wanted an explanation from the president on the absence of the boss.
However, GRA denied the claim in a statement, claiming that its CEO is on leave rather than absconding. According to the statement, Dr. Owusu-Amoah’s leave was approved over a month ago, and he is anticipated to return to the office on January 15.
GRA condemned Ablakwa’s comment as a distortion of the truth and demanded an apology from him.
In response, Ablakwa argued that he does not owe the GRA an apology because their statement fails to undermine the conclusions of his unimpeachable parliamentary supervision.
“Let me assure the GRA that I do not owe them an apology, and they will not receive one. The GRA statement utterly fails to refute the conclusions of my unimpeachable parliamentary oversight.”
