The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) plans to file an official complaint about the abuse of one of its members by the Ashanti regional director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Alex Opoku-Mensah, over the issue.
Opoku-Mensah was recorded after getting involved in an argument between a female nurse and a doctor who was later revealed to be his daughter.
The traumatised nurse and doctor have been withdrawn to receive psychological assistance.
Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, president of the GRNMA, told Accra-based radio, Asaase radio on Wednesday, November 30 that the NSS boss’s actions are disrespectful to the nursing profession.
“We are seeking charges against the verbal abuse and threat of a nurse who was on duty… this is what we are reporting to the police,” she said.
The GRNA boss reiterated calls for the Ashanti regional director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) to be fired immediately over the issue.
“One man, Alex Opoku-Mensah should not hold all the 32 million and over Ghanaians to ransom. He should be sacked; he is not fit to hold that position within the public service,” Ofori-Ampofo said.
