Ghanaian actor, Prince David Osei, has cautioned that he will stage a non-partisan youth demonstration against President Akufo-Addo if the current economic issues do not improve by December.
“I decided to give you and your government the benefit of the doubt, I reckon was wrong! The Youth of this nation are not smiling, it pours, but we are still sweating.
“If things don’t change by December, we will mobilise the youth of this country and hit the street irrespective of party affiliations, whether NPP, NDC, CQQ PNC whatever, doesn’t matter now, we are all in this together”, portions of the statement said.
According to him, the current status of the economy necessitates immediate action to remedy the issue.
“Mr President! With all due respect Mr President, why are you sleeping on Ghanaians? This is not acceptable Mr President? We deserve better, we know there are global crisis and hardship. Yes we know! But looks like you and your ministers are determined to inflict untoward hardship to the citizenry”, he noted.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the TV personality stated that despite their best efforts, the youth are still struggling to make ends meet.
Given the conditions, the actor expressed his displeasure with the existing government and vowed to stage a demonstration if the economy did not improve.
Noting his qualms, he also expressed concern about the President’s and his appointees’ failure to alleviate Ghanaians’ condition.
“God bless our motherland. We want to see improvement in our livelihoods.. If you have to sack some people do it without fear or favor because your legacy is on the line Sir!!”, the post concluded
The award-winning actor’s views come at a time the World Bank ranked Ghana as the country with the highest food price increases of 122% in Sub- Saharan Africa.
According to many, the suffering has been exacerbated by the Cedi’s constant decline in contrast to other main trading currencies, particularly the US dollar.
This has therefore affected the country’s inflation rate, resulting in increases in products and services, notably increases in fuel prices.
As a result, several stakeholders have expressed their concern and urged the government to take more immediate action to solve the problem.
The government, on the other hand, has informed citizens that it is willing to alleviate the pain through practical economic measures.
This involves ongoing discussions in New York between Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In the meantime, several social media users have criticised Prince David Osei for his role in the current situation.
According to his critics, he aggressively campaigned for Nana Akufo-Addo to become President, and hence bears responsibility for the current condition of affairs.
