Following the discovery of a human body in a shallow grave over the weekend, Inspector-General of Police George Akuffo Dampare will visit Wa in the Upper West Region to review the security situation.
The body is thought to be that of one of the area’s missing private security guards. According to reports, at least five people have gone missing in the Wa municipality in the previous five months under strange circumstances.
In a police statement today, Monday, September 19, the police said it will continue to maintain law, order, and security in the Wa municipality and surrounding communities.
“We wish to assure residents of the Wa municipality and its environs that the special intelligence and investigation teams will continue to work around the clock with assistance from the affected communities to bring the perpetrators to face justice,” the statement said.
It added that the operations and combat teams have also saturated the area to ensure safety and security.
Infuriated by the disappearance of private security personnel and the revelation of another missing individual last Friday, the youth staged a street demonstration and burned vehicle tyres on the streets.
Some attacked traders perceived to be foreigners, necessitating police reinforcement to help control the scene.
