The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has given the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament a one-week ultimatum to inquire into the Islamic Senior High School, Abrepo, Kumasi disruption which occurred on June 13, 2022.
Speaking in Parliament today, June 14, 2022, the Speaker said “I will direct the committee on Defence and Interior to take this matter up and report next week.
In other words, the committee members should visit the IGP to the regional police commander and the school in question, visit the injured persons and report by Tuesday with the findings and await the final investigations and if there is the need for us to take any further action, we will do that.”
This follows the alleged Police mistreatment of students of the Islamic SHS during a protest that fell short of the standard operating procedure of crowd control.
Some students of the Islamic SHS on Monday, protested against the frequent motor traffic accidents in front of their school.
In an effort to restore normal traffic flow, police fired warning shots and used tear gas and pepper spray on the students causing the injury of 38 students.
However, 22 out of 38 students have since been discharged and have joined their colleagues on campus.
