Anas Aremeyaw Anas, an investigative journalist, believes his defamation suit against Kennedy Agyepong, Member of Parliament for Assin North, is far from over.
Anas says in a short video posted on Facebook that he will file an appeal against Justice Eric Baah’s rulings in the case.
Mr. Aremeyaw Anas believed that the judge’s ruling looked to be a criminal ruling against him, despite the fact that he was a plaintiff in the defamation claim.
“Although the news about the dismissal of our defamation suit against the Member of Parliament was unexpected, I disagree with the judge’s reason based on law and the facts.
“My team of lawyers and I have carefully studied the judgment delivered by the court and we are unanimous that the judge made an overreach and descended into the arena and made a criminal pronouncement about me as if I was standing a criminal trial,” he said.
Although acknowledging the dangers of his position, the Investigative Journalist stated that he has worked hard to always serve the best interests of the country.
“When I started this line of work 22 years ago, I never assumed it would be an easy road. Yet it is the evidence in my work and the commitment to truth and justice that has always led and prevailed against all the forces that have worked to pull us down.
“My team and I remain unwavering, despite the attacks on us from the death of Ahmed to the constant threats on our lives. We remain guided by the principles of fairness, integrity, and courage as we continue our investigation in the public interest.”
