The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) management reports that a second-year medical science student who recently attempted suicide is presently in a stable condition and getting medical care and counselling.
On Tuesday night, the tragedy happened when the student attempted to leap from the fifth-floor balcony of the Brunei dormitory.
Fortunately, some of his co-workers were able to stop the effort and help him get back up. He was then brought right away to the hospital.
The KNUST Public Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, emphasised the need of promptly obtaining counselling assistance and warned students against considering suicide.
“For now, he is stable and investigations are ongoing to find out the cause of his attempted suicide and the various support systems that we can afford him.”
The university has requested that the public not be informed of the student’s identity or appearance by the media.
He added that steps will be taken to contact these media houses and request the removal of such details, as they have the potential to exacerbate the student’s situation.
