Ministers from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger convened Thursday (15 February) in Ouagadougou to reinforce the Alliance of Sahel States.
The gathering focused on updating the AES charter and developing the Sahel Confederation Treaty.
On September 16, the countries founded the AES.
At a meeting in December 2023, the ministers proposed that the new Troika broaden its goals to encompass diplomacy and economic growth.
This involves structuring their communication methods and designing an AES logo.
The conference was led by Burkina Faso’s General Kassoum Coulibaly, Mali’s Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga, and Niger’s General Salifou Mody, all Ministers of Defence.
The ministers also discussed the nations’ recent resignation from ECOWAS, pointing out the regional bloc’s inefficiency in terms of security.
They highlighted the trio’s irrevocable exit from ECOWAS, stating that it was crucial for successful integration.
