Some MPs have expressed their concerns and demanded the implementation of laws to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the nation.
Artificial intelligence tools are software programmes that use artificial intelligence-based algorithms to do particular jobs and handle different problems.
These AI systems have applications in a variety of fields, including healthcare, finance, marketing, and education. They are used for tasks such as work automation, data analysis, and improved decision-making capabilities.
Several MPs emphasised the significant benefits given by AI technologies during debates on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, but also emphasised the need for regulation to ensure they are utilised in a manner that corresponds with proper aims.
“If we do not act now the future will be bleak for the future of our country. Probably Mr. Speaker, we should consider establishing an artificial intelligence council,” MP for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu said.
MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that “those who worked on AI are beginning to worry about the potential and so it is opportune time for us to consider what kind of architecture, legal or regulatory to limit the most dangerous parts of AI.”
