The Nigerian government on Monday ordered the immediate closure of the Federal Government College, Kwali, in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, over the threat of attack by bandits.
According to a statement made by the Director of Press at the ministry, Ben Goong the directive was given by the country’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
This has resulted in the halt of the third-term examination in the school and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
However, the ministry said it will inform students of the procedure and time for taking any exams they could miss as a result of the sudden closure.
Nigeria is dealing with an increase in gunman attacks, many of which target specific people, priests, and students for ransom.
In 2021, armed groups locally referred to as bandits, kidnapped students from at least 10 schools in north-western Zamfara, Kaduna, and Kebbi states as well as Niger state in central Nigeria.
