Passengers flying into Kotoka International Airport (KIA) will no longer be required to fill out a landing card beginning March 31, 2023.
This is one of the measures the airport is taking to streamline operations and increase its global competitiveness.
The relocation is also expected to shorten facility wait times.
Following a meeting with some aviation industry players, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made the announcement on Facebook.
Those involved in the engagement included the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), the Ghana Immigration Service, the National Security Agency, and the Ministry of Interior.
The Minister for Public Enterprises, the Minister for Transportation, and his deputy were also present.
“It was decided, inter alia, that airline passengers travelling to Ghana will, from 31st March 2023, no longer be required to fill out landing cards. This is because the same information can be obtained electronically”, the Vice President stated in a Facebook post.
The Ghana Immigration Service and the Ministry of Interior have been directed, among other things, to ensure that the KIA’s E-gates are operational this year for use by travellers with passports or Ghana cards.
The new process flow is expected to be operational on March 31, 2023.
Furthermore, the procedures that passengers go through at KIA will also be streamlined to cut down on the amount of time they spend there and prevent duplication.
