The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters have allegedly failed to give any proof to support assertions that some of their members were brutally treated by the police, according to Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
The demonstration was held from September 21 to September 23, 2023. Over 50 protestors were arrested by police while demonstrating against the government’s economic policies and alleged corruption.
Ghanaians were outraged by the episode, accusing the police of employing disproportionate force against unarmed individuals.
On September 22, 2023, the IGP met with some leaders of the Democracy Hub group, the protest organisers, to address concerns about the nature of their planned demonstration at the Jubilee House.
According to the police, it was determined at the meeting that there was no evidence or documented case of assault against the demonstrators.
The IGP stated during a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Accra on Tuesday that “after months of completing that demonstration until today, not a shred of evidence has been brought up to indicate that police brutalised them.”
