The Office of the Special Prosecutor has begun investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses using unlawful small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.
The OSP stated in a statement that the inquiry will target officials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission
“It also targets the activities and expenditure of the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), especially in respect of the seizure and management of machinery, road excavators, vehicles, and gold nuggets.” The OSP said.
The probe will feature an active and ongoing investigation into claims of using public office for profit against Charles Bissue during his time at the IMCIM, as well as an investigative documentary titled Galamsey Fraud Part I, issued by Tiger Eye P.I.
The inquiry also focuses on the actions of Akonta Mining Limited and other enterprises, foreign nationals accused of illegal mining, and charges of corruption and corruption-related offenses leveled against various Municipal and District Chief Executives and political party officials.
