Parliament has adopted a jail term of a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years for willfully promoting, sponsoring, or supporting LGBTQ+ activities.
Persons caught in the act would also face a minimum term of six months and a maximum sentence of three years.
During parliamentary proceedings on the clause-by-clause amendment of the bill on the promotion of proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values, Sam Nartey George, MP for Ningo Prampram, explained, “What created the confusion was the establishment of an advocacy of the promotion of the activities, which Ghanaians are opposed to. Nobody cares what you do in your bedroom. As a result, the punishment for anyone caught in the act yesterday, February 7, will be a minimum of six months and a maximum of three years.
However, anyone who willfully promotes, sponsors, or supports the plan shall face a minimum three-year sentence, and a maximum of five years.”
