Parliament has suspended debate on the Appointments Committee’s report on new Ministers appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This comes after the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, asked the Speaker to halt proceedings for an hour to hold a joint caucus meeting.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, granted the request, saying, “what I have gotten is that the application is well grounded. And as the master of standing orders, I’m persuaded to grant it. So I’m going to stop sitting for an hour. And that means we should be back here at 3:30 p.m.”
The Speaker previously denied a request from the Minority Caucus for more time to review the report.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) directed the Minority group not to approve the newly nominated ministers prior to their vetting on Monday, February 20, 2023, describing their appointments as an insensitive move that would increase government expenditure in the midst of an economic crisis.
Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T Hammond has been nominated as Minister for Trade and Industry, with Dr. Stephen Amoah, Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, serving as his deputy.
Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has also been appointed Minister of Food and Agriculture.
Stephen Asamoah Boateng was appointed as the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs among others.
