Parliament is anticipated to have a vote on the passage of the 2024 budget today, November 30, 2023,
After the completion of the discussion, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, proclaimed a voice vote in support of the majority on the budget’s passage on Wednesday, November 29.
The minority caucus, however, appealed the verdict and chose a headcount, leading the majority group to walk out.
The Speaker then stopped proceedings before returning to adjourn them.
However, indications on Parliament’s order paper suggest that the headcount will take place today.
Ernest Norgbey, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, confirmed the Minority’s resolve to vote against the approval once more.
“Same story, we’ll still kick against the budget. We are prepared for the headcount. We anticipate that all of our members will be present today, and we will vote to reject the budget. We’re all here, but none of them are available right now.
“There are so many anomalies in the budget, so many taxes we want the government to take away to reduce the burden and sufferings of Ghanaians. Even some of the members of the majority are not in agreement with some of the taxes. We have decided to kick against the budget so that they go and correct the anomalies.” he said
