A police inspector has been placed on remand by the Asokore Mampong District Court in the Ashanti Region for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah.
On April 20, 2023, at Adum, a short distance from her home, 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maa Adwoa, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi.
The suspect admitted to the crime during his initial court appearance, but he insisted that he did not intend to kill his girlfriend.
The suspect has been officially charged with murder as the prosecution has received guidance from the Attorney General’s office, and he is now appearing before the court for the second time after being placed on remand.
The suspect appeared in court for the second time after being on remand, and he was formally charged with murder after the prosecution received advice from the Attorney General’s office.
Family members of the deceased who were present during the court proceedings were given assurances by the head of legal and prosecutions in the Ashanti Region, ACP Kofi Blagodzi, that the police administration is committed to seeing that justice is served in the case because the office of the Attorney General has given its advice and the committal procedures will start during the next hearing.
Kofi Blagodzi, ACP, addressed the media following the court proceedings.
“This is a very difficult moment. But as I indicated, now that the advice has come, we shall proceed with the trial. The police have taken a serious interest [in this case]. We are taking very much interest in this matter. The IGP wants to deliver, and the police have also delivered. We have given full assurance that this matter will travel to its last minute,” the Head of legal and prosecution in the Ashanti region, ACP Kofi assured.
