he Member of Parliament (MP) for Prestea Huni-Valley constituency, Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has embarked on a community visitation and Covid-19 sensitization tour in her area.
The tour afforded the MP the opportunity to educate her constituents on pandemic to mitigate its spread, and also listen to the concerns of the people and see how best to address the challenges confronting them.
Addressing all five farming communities she visited, the MP, sensitized the residents on how to prevent being infected by the virus.
“Try your best to abide by the laid down protocols aimed at protecting yourselves against the coronavirus. Wear nose masks, practice social distancing; wash your hands regularly with soap under running water; use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, in absence of soap and water; avoid handshakes, and report suspected cases early to negate the potential of community spread,” she advised.
According to the MP, the government is committed to ensuring that the pandemic is controlled but it would depend on Ghanaians to strictly adhere to the protocols.
She donated Four motorized Knapsack spraying machines, 500 cutlasses, nose masks, and liquid soaps to the communities. She also assured to adequately commit resources at her disposal towards addressing the basic needs of the people.
Since the outbreak of the global pandemic Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has committed significant resources to complement the national effort at preventing the spread of Covid-19.
This included the donation of GH₵100,000 worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline workers of public and private health facilities, security agencies, markets and lorry stations within her constituency.
Others included a donation of GH₵10,000 to Prestea government hospital; handing out of 10,000 nose masks to constituents; donation of non-contact infrared thermometers; provision of mobile public address system for community sensitization; and other vital equipment to mitigate the spread.
In March this year, she donated 50 percent of her salary for the next three months (April, May and June), to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund established by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the fight against the virus and to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable.
The MP who doubles as Minister for tourism, Arts and Culture appealed to constituents to participate in the upcoming voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission.
Dr. Isaac Dasmani, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area emphasized that the Assembly will continue to work together with the MP to prioritize projects such as the provision of potable water, quality infrastructure, quality health care, and interventions to improve the living standards of the people.
He revealed that roads linking these communities will all see a facelift soon.
