Some 14 students of the Wa Secondary Technical High School have been hospitalised after two separate fire incidents at the school.
According to reports, the students experienced trauma in varying degrees as a result of the fire that destroyed their dormitory.
One student is receiving treatment at the Upper West region hospital, and 13 other students are at the Wa municipal hospital.
The management has decided to temporarily close the school to allow for a thorough investigation into the two infernos that erupted on the evenings of Sunday and Monday, according to Abdul-Razak Korah, the Upper West regional director of education.
He further stated that the cost of transporting the students to their various homes will be covered by the Ghana Education Office.
A preliminary investigation into the fires, according to ACFO 1 Henry Asiedu, the Upper West Regional Commander of the Ghana National Service, indicates that the two dormitory blocks’ illegal connections were the cause of the fires.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, visited the school in the interim to assess the extent of the fire’s damage.
