As the novel corona virus pandemic rages within the country, local authorities continue to institute and enforce measures to curtail its spread in various jurisdictions across the country. The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has intensified its efforts to ensure that both market traders and customers adhere strictly to social distancing protocols in various markets.
In line with that, the Assembly has deployed a substantial number of city guards to various markets in keeping with that. The Kwesimintsim Observer visited independence square and market square centers and, realized that recalcitrant traders had their goods or wares seized and customers turned away from the markets.
One of the city guard deployed told the Kwesimintsim Observer that ” Covid-19 is a dangerous disease which still does not have a cure now, and the only way to prevent its spread is to observe social distancing protocols and other precautionary measures. And that markets have identified as one of the hotspots where the virus can easily be transmitted, and the Assembly in its wisdom deployed us here to ensure conformity to these rules by both traders and persons who visit the market”.
