Members of the Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU) will lay down their tools starting today to demand improved working conditions.
The walkout is in reaction to the government’s inability to address a variety of issues, including welfare requirements, Tier-two pension funds, car maintenance allowances, and overtime allowance.
The union has withdrawn a variety of services, including environmental cleanup, classroom setup, security, and medical services.
Sulemana Abdul-Rahman, the National Chairman of the TEWU, declared that the strike will continue until their issues were addressed.
“On the lackadaisical nature of the employer which is the government of Ghana to address the challenges and problems of TWEU members in the traditional public universities, the TEWU of Ghana hereby declares an indefinite strike and the strike takes effect on 1st February which is Thursday until further notice,” he said in a statement.
