Market women at the Kotokuruba market have decried the insanitary conditions existing at the market, blaming it on the failure of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly to deal with the situation.
The market women claim that all attempts to draw the assembly’s attention to the situation has fallen on deaf ears, and they fear for their lives as the COVID-19 pandemic ranges on.
The traders explained that although daily market tows are taken from them, authorities have failed to maintain good sanitary conditions in the market such as regular emptying of the waste bins.
In an interview with Adom FM news, one of the traders, Auntie Aba said ” we have called on the assembly several times concerning the bad sanitation conditions prevailing in the market, but they have declined to our calls. Yet on a daily basis, we are asked by the assembly to pay market tows. We are been told that insanitary conditions are fertile grounds for COVID-19 infections to increase. We are therefore calling on the assembly to act with some urgency so as to curtail a looming danger”
The market women have therefore entreated the Cape Coast Metropolitan assembly to institute measures to resolve the insanitary conditions at the market.
