Traders in the Kumasi Metropolis’ Central Business District in the Ashanti Region have shuttered their doors to protest what they call the government’s high levies on businesses.
The majority of the closed-down stores have red bands tied to them, as shopkeepers believe the protest will last three days.
The traders are also outraged over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s decision to deploy officers at each shop to collect Value Added Tax (VAT) on the goods they sell.
