The Corporate Affairs Director at the National Identification Authority (NIA), Mr. Abdul Ganiyu has urged the public to get their Ghana cards issued within the two months extension given by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.
In an interview with OilCity Radio, Mr. Ganiyu mentioned that two months extension is enough time for people to have their sim cards issued.
According to him, NIA is not to be blamed for people who have not had their cards issued yet.
“We have all cards at the district offices yet people are complaining that the offices are far away from their homes…but you can’t complain to the NIA because assuming you have your passport in Accra and you are asked to come for it…you will because you want to travel,” Mr. Ganiyu said.
Mr. Ganiyu added that in couple of weeks NIA will put up a list with the names of issued cards to indicate to people the offices their cards are so they can have them issued.
He also stated that cards with errors should be brought along with other identification documents to prove the errors were genuinely made at the NIA office, from August 2, 2022, at the Elwak Sport Stadium, in other to get it rectified.
He therefore, urged the general public to get their Ghana cards issued before September 30, 2022 to avoid long queues at the NIA offices and the punitive measures meted out by the Ministry of Communications.
At the recent Ashanti Regional Consumer Forum, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Owusu-Ekuful cautioned that the ongoing SIM card exercise deadline slated for July 31, 2022, will not be extended.
However, following complaints and agitations from the public, the Minister yesterday, July 31 2022, announced the extension of the SIM card re-registration exercise to September 30, 2022.
