The Awudome Senior High School in Tsito in the Ho West District of the Volta Region is unable to provide enough beds for the student population.
The majority of students are forced to sleep on mattresses on the floor in their dormitories.
The Awudome Senior High School, established in 1963, has a student population of over 2,000.
The school, located in the Volta Region’s Ho West District, does not have enough beds in the dormitories.
The majority of the boarding students lay their mattresses on the floor and sleep on them.
This has been one of the school’s challenges, along with an invasion of bed bugs.
After learning about the situation, the 1974 group of the AWUSCO Old Students Union Association (OSUA) provided 30 metal beds to salvage the situation.
According to the President of the 1974 OSUA, David Seshie, they identified the critical need for the beds after a request from the headmaster regarding the unfavourable conditions in the dorms.
Though the AWUSCO Headmaster, Courage Meteku, appreciated the gesture, he stated that more needs to be done to ensure that every single student has a bed to sleep on.
The 1993 OSUA also presented a modern set of brass band instruments and uniforms to the school careers.
