The Wassa Fiase Traditional Council has dissociated itself from the queen mother’s comment endorsing the vice presidential candidate Prof Jane Naans Opoku Agyeman and the NDC.
A statement from the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council and signed by the Interim President, Nana Kwasi Attoborah, said the queen mother of Wassa Fiase, Nana Abena Kunadjoa II during a meeting organized by the Western regional house of chiefs to welcome the vice presidential candidate of the NDC is reported by 3news.com and ghanaweb.com to have said that “we love NDC and I know by God’s grace you will win”.
“To her, the appointment of Prof Naana Opoku Agyeman was enough justification for the queen mothers to openly support the NDC’s re-election bid”, the statement said.
The statement noted that, the comments by the queen mother is not the council’s view as it is done by her for her personal gains.
The statement concluded that “Nananom of Wassa Fiase Traditional Council are very mindful of the fact that a chief shall not take part in active politics”.
In a related development, the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council is finding it difficult to come to terms with the queen mother’s decision to organize a demonstration for the enstoolment of Odeneho Akrofa Krokoko as the legitimate paramount chief for the traditional area, someone she (queen mother) was against.
The queen mother, Nana Abena Kunadjoa II and the royal family head Abusuapanyin Kwasi Sackey wrote a letter to all media houses on 27th July 2017 that
Osagyefo Kwamena Enimil VI remains the substantive Omanhene and president of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council.
This was contained in a statement from the Wassa FiasetRADITIONAL Council signed by the Interim President Nana Kwasi Attoborah.
The statement said, the queen mother and the Abusuapanyin stated in the letters sent to the media houses that, “the Supreme Court of Ghana gave a ruling recognizing Osagyefo as the Omanhene after the ruling from the Western Region House of Chiefs”.
This baffles the mind of the interim president as “the same queen mother is leading a demonstration claiming Odeneho AkrofaKrukoko(former Omanhene)is the substantive Omanahene due to a ruling from the Western Region House of Chiefs that did not give any specific order, that Odeneho is the Omanahene or should reign as Omanahene”.
The statement added that “the same queen mother again afetr the High Court of Justice, Kumasi on 4th MAy 2020 in a case involving Katakyie Ntsiful Essel V, Osagyefo and Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko gave specific instruction to the National House of Chiefs to insert the name of the applicant (Katayie Ntsiful Essel V), the current Omanahene in the National Register of Chiefs forthwith”.
According to the statement, Lawyer Israel Ackah who was the counsel for Odeneho in the case is aware of the ruling given May 2020.
This, Nana Kwasi Attobrah does not understand why the queen mother would throw “dust into the eyes of the citizens of Wassa and beyond that Odeneho is the Omanhene”, thereby organising a demonstration scheduled to take place today Wednesday 23rd September 2020.
The council is calling on the police to ensure that peace prevails while and concern citizens of Wassa Fiase are also antreated to desist from any such demonstration.
