Contractors have begun works on the Suame Roundabout-Afrancho Road work to complete rehabilitation works.
Suame Magazine artisans and spare part dealers have staged a series of street protests against the deplorable Suame Roundabout-Afrancho stretch of the main Kumasi-Techiman Road.
Angry artisans demonstrated against the Member of Parliament for the area and Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who was meeting with the artisans’ leadership.
What appeared to be a reactionary visit by the Member of Parliament for Suame to address his constituents’ concerns about deteriorating roads turned hostile.
The enraged artisans pelted the MP’s entourage with sachet water and other items until the MP was whisked away in a police vehicle by a police team led by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
Joshob Construction Limited, who abandoned the site due to a severe lack of bitumen, has since returned, promising to complete an asphalt overlay on the 1.5-kilometer stretch this Friday.
According to the officials of Joshob Construction, at least 1.5 kilometer of asphalt overlay on the Nurom Hotel-Anomanye Nkwanta Road will be finished this Friday.
Moses Narhkorli an Asphalt Foreman at Joshob Constructions said: “We want to seal the potholes from the beginning. From tomorrow, we will spray. So the asphalt will start on Friday morning.”
“We will spray the bitumen (first layer) so that the following day. On Friday we can cover at least 1.5 kilometers for a day. After Friday, we will continue. Now we’ve come there’s no stop because more bitumen is coming from Togo,” Mr. Narkorli added.
Mr. Narhkorli stated that officials of Joshob Construction have promised to work around the clock in what they describe as a progressive construction timetable.
He, therefore, urged the constituents to be patient as the problem may not be from the MP but the contractors.
